I-751, traveling with an expired GC : feedbacks
Hi everyone, I need your help.
My Green Card has expired, and my I-751 is still pending. I have the letter indicating my Green Card extension for 48 months. I plan to travel abroad and will, of course, bring my extension letter with me.
My main concern is when returning to the U.S. At the airport in the country I’m departing from, they usually ask to see my Green Card before allowing me to board a flight to the U.S. If they notice the expiration date, even if I show them the extension letter, I wonder if it might be an issue—especially since I don’t know if they are familiar with this notice (I-751 extension).
Has anyone been through this experience? If so, I’d really appreciate it if you could share your insights.
Thanks!!
Driss

I traveled 2 weeks ago in your situation and no issues... people always panic. They are very familiar with the extension letter. I traveled like 7 times with that. Even 2 weeks ago was the easiest. They only asked me how long was I outside the country and that was it. Very fast.
You will be fine. Enjoy your trip!!

thanks @JJ . yeah you right. my main concern was not when you arrive in the US it’s more in the country at the departure ( abroad) . for example in France when you flight to the US at the airport before checking your baggage there is an officer and he asks you to show your GC , and I was worried if this French officer who is probably not familiar with the extension , if he see the expiration date I was worried that he told me I cannot go even if I show you the letter . but I know once you land in the US the US customer officer know this extension

They all know about the 48 months extension, stop scaring yourself, nothing going to happen

thanks @lebeni blessing yeah once again my concern was more in the country at the departure , I thought that they were not familiar with the US forms specially when it comes to GC

Not a good time to travel. You are an immigrant. You will need to answer a lot of questions before returning. Before January 20, I will say yes, now it's a big No.

I have traveled several times with the letter. no issues more than a few extra minutes waiting on airline counters for managers to check the document. however, I would recommend to wait if your trip is not essential right know. not a great time for immigrants.

thanks @M B yeah it was what happened just at the counter we have to show the letter but that’s fine , once again thanks a lot
