I-751 ROC TRAVEL
I applied to remove conditions from 2 year green card. I received the I-797 letter extending it for 48 months. Thereafter I traveled to Canada. On my way back - the CBP officer - was giving me “friendly” advice that since my Greencard is expired and even with the letter i shouldn’t travel internationally. He suggested I should wait till I get an update card which according to him will arrive in a few weeks. It’s been a month since I received my letter. Of course, 30 seconds later he says I’m all clear.
Little bit baffled because the letter stated I could travel as long as I present my expired GC and letter together.
Anyone have any advice? It is true that I should limit my travel while my ROC is pending?

I’m still contemplating if I should travel to Africa or not. But waiting for the next 48 months to receive the actual card is just unbearable. Just trying to find out if someone has traveled on the extension to Africa and back without any problems.

@Captain rtf yes I travelled last year to Nigeria with my 24 months extension and I didn’t encounter any problem. it clearly says you can travel as long as you present the letter with your expired card.

you definitely can travel with the letter, it’s basically “a green card” on a piece of paper

I’ve traveled to Kenya twice with the expired greencard an extension, the 12 and 24 months extension. I got the 48 months extension in feb 2023 and plan on traveling in November. As long as you have both documents then no issues coming back.

hey, I have traveled a lot with the extension letter - South America, Israel, Turkey, Russia - have never had any problems whatsoever. Nothing to be worried about - it extends your card = all your green card benefits. good luck 👍🏻

@s I, if you are due for a stamp they’ll set up an appointment for you. just call the number and say infopass. when it ask you the reason, say “get a stamp” and answer the questions to speak to an agent
