I-140 and I-485 Pending with RFE

I have a Pending I-140 that was Currently submitted with a I-485. I just received an RFE in the I-140 application. Can I apply to another type of Category while I-140 still pending so I can have a safety status in case of a denial to avoid the need of living the country? Thanks

Thanks!!! But in that case if the pending I-140 is denied, the concurrently filed I-485 that is also pending would also be denied. But if I file another I-140 first, what would my status be if at this time the visa bulletin does not have the 2nd preference employment based Current ?
