I have a valid RTD and am thinking of a 4 weeks trip, my GC app is pending. @Alex B

@the g as long as you not travel to home country and have no criminal record it is safe to go.

@Greencard Jays you don't for Germany. for Canada you need visa. If you have GC and RTD no visa via land crossing. visa still required for air travel to Canada

@Alex B I applied for the one that is good for 2 years, I paid more for it about $600 from what I recall, I will let you know when I receive it if it’s for real for 2 years or they are just overcharging 😆I applied in October 2024 so I should have it sometime in Nov-Dec this year, hopefully sooner

@Alex B ard you sure we need visa to enter canada by air with RTD&Green card? i checked at canadian consulate site that visa is not required

@NY NY sorry about that, you are correct. There are maybe slight difference when crossing by land versus air by I am not sure, it's been last summer so I can't remember)

@Alex B mine just got approved today. still waiting on my wife's one. I'm planning on just applying for re-entry permit this time and get schengen visa. too much headache every single year with RTD

@Immigration Guy Not sure if this will work. re-entry permit only valid to enter United States. you can't use it instead of RTD and place a visa in it.

hey @Alex B I'm seeing a good amount of people get schengen visas on re-entry permit + I'm also going to email a couple of embassies on that one. i've also had clients move around with reentry when I was working as paralegal so should be fine. the only thing is the gamble of how long of a visa will they issue to me!
