4-6 months from approval of your GC. Don’t quit your job the next day your GC gets approved, I know 2 people who are fighting USCIS for their N400 approval as they left the job 2 weeks after their GCs were approved.

Tell me more please about the 2 people who have issues. I was hoping to leave my job soon when approved.

@SPS S what do you wanna know ? Its self explanatory. Either join the military after quitting your unskilled job to fast track your citizenship else keep working for 4-6 months. I can’t speak for who is going to hold executive office in 2029 but a lot of factors depend on which party has the White House and right now they’r doing everything they can to deny your case.

@Paan Singh what if you are skilled ( nurse) can you quit? still working as a nurse.
Paan Singh Apr 15, 2026
@ivy Ivy as long as you stay within the same profession I don’t see why not. Unskilled folks move from unskilled roles directly to higher skilled roles after their GC is appointed I guess that’s where the problem is. Personally, I’d stick with the same employer for few months after my GC is approved, couple of months of trade off for peace of mind.

@Paan Singh what if u completed ur contract and got ur GC after few weeks of leaving the job.
Paan Singh Apr 16, 2026
@ivy Ivy the contract you have with your employer doesn’t matter to USCIS. The fact of the matter by law is you agree to work after you receive your benefit i.e. green card. Check Part 1 of the i485 supplement j that your lawyer filed.

@Paan Singh Request job portability under INA section 204(i) to a new, full-time, permanent job offer that you intend to accept once your Form I-485 is approved.

that’s what was clicked.

@Paan Singh this company lawyer didn’t give us full package they filed. only pages they want signatures. do you think uscis will contact them during citizenship process?
