help me!
I am now in the process of adjusting status through marriage, I want to know if when I get my green card and close my asylum case, I can return to my country of origin without any problem.

you are good to go unless you have previous criminal convictions in the US which you could be sent to secondary inspection for… once you close your asylum case.

@laurem venegas Hi, so you have now closed your asylum case and are doing an adjustment of status?
you will not be able to leave until you either get your travel document I-131 or your greencard. When you you apply and did you apply for the I-131?
you case might take awhile to process because you have gone from asylum to adjustment of status. Also where you live will dictate the time it takes. Different field offices have different processings times.

@Kingsley B I have not closed the case because I do not want to stay without a ilegal status, I will close it when I have the green card in my hands, I applied for asylum in 2023 so far I only have my social security and my work permit, about 20 days ago I applied for adjustment of status by marriage and next week I have an appointment for my biometrics, but my question is if there will be any problem to return to my country of origin if I already had an asylum process.

@Kingsley B you.cannot return to your country with a green card, if you applied for asylum it means you are afraid to return home. you have to wait until you get your passport

please provide your email I’ll share an image of USCIS notice for exact same scenario that one of our community members received.

@laurem venegas Uscis will not have approved your case until you close your file, because USCiS has no jurisdiction over your case because an immigration judge is on the case
alain louissaint1d
You must ask the judge to terminate the case
chasing Greencard the green card is really green 1d
terminate your asylum now
otherwise you'll get denied and will sent to her your greencard through the court.

@laurem venegas not even when you become a citizen you should do that. And if you do decide to travel to your country of origin, please get advice from a competent lawyer. This is one of the things that can get you denaturalize. Unless there are major changes to your country it’s not a wise decision.
