Hello. The wait of f1 is more than f2b and my mom is about to become citizen. Do I need to transfer my category from f2b to f1? Will I get more wait time ?

F1 - US citizen filing for Unmarried Child PD Jan 2016Feb 8, 2025
that's a good question. I'm made the mistake by changing to F1, if I didn't my priority date would of been current like 1 year ago.

Suddenly myProgress is active. And it says 18 months wait time for the decision. is it accurate? did anyone has that?

you need to keep checking the visa bulletin if the category f1 moves faster stay there if f2b is faster when your priority date is current change your category to f2b. just keep in mind that you can’t go back to f1. you need to consider which category was your mom when the I-130 was approved. if your mom was a resident you can change to f2b otherwise no.

You get to choose if you want to stay F2B or move to F1 when you are filing. F1 filing date is faster although final action date is behind F2B. When the filing date is cureent, you can apply and get EAD and travel permit while you wait for the green card. Something to consider if that matters to you vs getting green card early.

If your mom becomes a U.S. citizen, you may be eligible to transition from the F2B category (family-based preference for unmarried adult children of U.S. permanent residents) to the F1 category (family-based preference for unmarried adult children of U.S. citizens). However, the F1 category typically has a longer wait time than F2B. It’s best to discuss this with an immigration attorney to understand how it may impact your specific situation, but in general, you might experience a longer wait time in F1 than F2B.

myProgress fluctuates so much that my mom’s naturalization was showing 3 months estimates for decision two weeks ago but suddenly she got approved today and her interview is in two weeks.
