I’m feeling really confused about what to do next. I’ve been waiting for a long time and already received 6 PFs. I’m in a genuine relationship for over 3 years with extensive proof, and I’m unsure whether I should keep waiting for my VAWA case or move forward with getting married. Has anyone been in a similar situation? What did you decide, and how did it work out?

@Ivan b how long has your VAWA been pending? also, you can still continue your relationship and do everything married people do. only difference is it is not on paper so what’s the rush really?

@Ivan b ah ok. thanks for the explanation. so that’s about the 3 year mark for VAWA which means you are almost at the finish. i believe if you follow through with the VAWA process, it’ll be fasting than having to get married and refuel all over again. that’s my $0.02

@Ivan b I was Al’s in a genuine rship for over 2 years but we fell out and things turned south quickly. I was so glad I didn’t let him file for me like he was suggesting because I would have been devastated if I put my faith in someone else’s hands again

that’s a lie vawa is now 46months and might be more. marriage is still faster if you are 100% sure the person will see it through with you please go for it

@jj jj what is a lie? did you not see where OP said they have already waited 3years. meaning their case would be adjudicated soon and would most likely be faster tha starting a whole marriage based case.

@victoria B I’m glad you didn’t follow through with it. lol I was in the same shoes a yr plus ago. I came here and asked for advice, thank God I did. At the time, i was so confused and tired of waiting, my fiancé was willing to do it and I was ready to let go of 2yrs. Thank God I was encouraged to wait. wasnt even up to 3months, we broke up. He would ev been worst than my EX.😂 if they know you need them that much they will use U and take advantage and be a mini god lol. I would ev regretted my life if I had let go of VAWA. so @Ivan b my advise would be that you hang in there. keep your relationship, have kids if you want to. but don’t cancel VAWA for anyone. and don’t ever trust anyone 100%. that’s all I ev to say. congratulations to us all in advance.

@it’s my Turn to be Approved exactly!!!! you’ve said it all! if they really love you @Ivan b you, let them wait till you get approved. for now, you guys can live together, have kids and do whatever it is married people do. Again, like @it’s my Turn to be Approved said, you would regret it if you lost control of your immigration status. people turn to monsters overnight. think of how it was with your ex that out you in the VAWA situation in the first place

@victoria B I am just saying vawa is now 46 months and counting so that’s 4years 2months & more so op will most likely have one year 2months left or more because vawa is 46 months & that’s not even guaranteed based on current processing time and uscis extending it every two months. so my thing is based on OP original question if they are very certain that the person will see them through they can go ahead with the marriage because it’s still faster compared to vawa they will likely be done with marriage faster if they submit all evidences at once in a faster time but it’s all dependent on OP at the end of the day

Is your partner going to petition you? I recommend you to wait until the approval you don’t want to be waiting for someone that can change in the future, I’m not saying that your partner is going to be same as the old one but is better if you wait
