congrats @kat . did you got a RFE before the interview ? thank you to share your experience
kat .May 2, 2024
@Mr uscis blog yes I did for medical expiry in June 2023. I was 9mths in over processing time. I pushed for response via many avenues legal, congressional and uscis community outreach reps… as a drastic measure my attorney also flagged mail sent to the director of the uscis field office. I got push backs, delays and no response…. I was one step away from hiring an attorney to pursue a mandamus. Ultimately in May 2024 my visas approved 2yrs ago were expiring. My EAD had expired in Jan 2024… proving financial hardship, loss of stability and job security, loss of financial aid (I’m in college to further my education for career), and medical help (I have an illness that needs specialist care) caused by uscis for untimely delays and no response. I also found out that in some cases they schedule interviews close to the month of initial submission of all vawa applications (if filed concurrently) and likely to be also around (or close it) the time of your birthday

@Mrkvica M. I have no idea, I heard that from a social worker who is also an immigrant from Africa (can’t for life of me remember what country)… she started to notice the pattern. She could be wrong 🤷‍♀️

@kat . hi my friend! Is everything OK? How was it? Any good news?
kat .May 29, 2024
all good, I don’t even know why I went.. I may have been lucky, but very few questions were asked… but had a 5hr wait before was called for interview…. because they can say it, due to formality and procedure… in as little words - approved. so now awaiting formal decision.
M
Mrkvica M.May 30, 2024
@kat . that is amazing!!!! Congrats from the bottom of my heart!! Do you mind telling me what did they ask you?
kat .May 30, 2024
@Mrkvica M. only the questions from the actual initial application for your i485 you submitted originally. study your application… everything written on it will be questioned, including any addendums. ie. if your mothers name is abc but you answer during interview 123 - it would be deemed a questionable lie or you said no to weapons training or killed a man on your application but during interview you state yes that you have - you lied. they try to see if your story remains straight. Nothing from the abuse (related to the i360) will come up. if your i360 is approved then there is no reason to question you about it. the green card interview is purely to see if you can prove who you say you are - in the nutshell. your identity.. the best thing you can do is, read the copy of your application you submitted eons ago and study it… get someone (a friend, family or attorney) to go through every question and answer them…. the questions you answer incorrectly you study to remember them harder.

Mrkvica M.May 30, 2024
@kat . oh wow, it's like an exam! Thank you so much! i trully appreciate this huge help!! Can't wait for you to get your physical green card 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
kat .May 31, 2024
@Mrkvica M. essentially they are looking for red flags. believe me, it was hard for me to remember some of the stuff I had answered on the application, after all it was done 3yrs ago. a little revision goes along way! also, make sure you are presentable (business attire) for the interview - think of it like going to a job interview - keep calm, nothing worse than an officer seeing you all anxiety ridden, sweaty, can’t talk proper etc… most officers are really friendly, but get one who’s had a bad day, and things may not end well. when an officer starts the questions - ONLY answer the questions, don’t go outside of that… if youre not great at english, practice. when you get to the uscis field office, prepare for a day of waiting. my appt time was 9am but didn’t get seen until 2pm… bring a book, a little snack and water. Dont bother with a phone charger there’s no outlets. don’t bring the entire kitchen coz remember you’ll have to go through security - that means belts, shoes, watches everything gets screened. don’t put anything into your bag that you know security will question.
M
Mrkvica M.May 31, 2024
@kat . can you imagine that i applied 7 years ago and life happened during those 7 years. Thank you!! Yeah, i totally agree with you. We need to look representable and I understand that I might be there whole day because you never know what will they dig out with person who is before you and that totally makes sense. Did they give you official answer?
kat .May 31, 2024
lol the wait to be interviewed psych’s you out. no, they aren’t going to give you an on the spot official answer. you’ll have to read between the lines when they speak to you. my officer simply said: “remember that you need to pick your card up from your safe address, my attorney” - a good indication. the official response could come any day, any week or months. the standard is 10-45days, but there isn’t any real standard anymore since many are backlogged
M
Mrkvica M.May 31, 2024
@kat . yup, that officer told you between the lines that you are approved 🤗🤗🤗 yeah, the wait is probably the worst and nerv wrecking. And I thought that you were the first one on the schedule since you had 9am appointment. In what state do you live?
kat .May 31, 2024
@Mrkvica M. remember there could be 10-15 scheduled at the same time. they do this because the wait is long and depending on cases for interview they could be individuals, couples or whole families. it’s average wait is about 2hrs of sitting to be called or unlike in my case 5. that’s why I said pack a drink, snack and book. just plan for a day of waiting- don’t schedule anything outside for the day. don’t go there in expectation your first. my case was at the Washington, D.C. field office but the interview was at Baltimore field office. I had to travel an hour away on Amtrak to get there.
M
Mrkvica M.May 31, 2024
@kat . oh, I didn't know that. Thank you for letting me know. And yeah, I understand that it could be all day and def nerv wrecking day but there is nothing else we can do about it 😔 I'm glad that you are done with all this and the last thing you need to do is just to pick up your card 🤗🤗🥳🥳🥳
