What was i-485 RFE for?

Birth certificate. I initially attached a birth certificate not issued by the “appropriate authority” according to USCIS.

@KY KY did uscis mention that birth certificate was not from the appropriate authorities? I also received a rfe for birth certificate but I had also submitted initially.

@PP Jain, I think when most people receive RFE for birth certificate, they assume USCIS lost it and resend what was originally sent. That’s a mistake to make. One needs to check the website referenced in the letter (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/diversity-visa-program-entry/diversity-visa-if-you-are-selected/diversity-visa-prepare-supporting-documents.html) and confirm if what one submitted initially was issued by what the U.S. designates as the “appropriate authority”. This is important to allow a smooth and faster processing of one’s case.

@PP Jain. Thank you. It varies. But for my I485, it took them exactly one week after receipt to update my case to “RFE received”

What’s the correct form for birth certificate? Do you have a template for reference?
