Long-pending family preference cases (such as F1 unmarried daughter of a U.S. citizen) often show status updates like “Received” or “In Process” due to system migration or internal file handling, not necessarily new adjudicative action. USCIS case status language is not always linear and may refresh when cases are transferred between legacy systems and ELIS or updated in electronic databases.
From a legal and risk perspective, USCIS status updates alone do not indicate approval, denial, or substantive movement unless accompanied by formal notices (RFE, approval notice, or interview scheduling). In F1 category cases, actual progression is primarily controlled by Visa Bulletin priority date availability under INA § 203, not system status changes. Therefore, “In Process” or “Received” updates in 2026 typically reflect administrative system updates or file review activity, not a change in visa availability or case outcome. The key factor remains your 2018 priority date and whether it is current for final immigrant visa issuance.
