that may not be a reason for them to expedite your GC, I went to nursing school with a TIN number and sat for my Nclex with my passport in Sep 2019, I had valid DL but I couldn’t renew it until I got my EAD in Nov 2019, am just saying find any form of ID that school will accept and do your nursing while you wait to be legal

May I add that I filed my papers in May 2019 and I received my GC June 2021

I actually got accepted at nursing and I’m starting January 2022. My school didn’t ask about this even though I said I’m a non citizen with a pending I-485 application.

@mo I’m going to UNC Chapel Hill in NC. I’m not using financial aid since I don’t want to jeopardize my AOS application.

@gigi you can go to any school with a pending GC application.

not all school allows that because the school that I'm planning to go to insist that they can't accept me without me having a ssn and work permit even though I have my case pending. they even explained that I have to have a social to they can do background check in order for me to be able to do clinical and stuff so not all nursing school

Yes, SSN is required to apply in medical school. And GC if you apply for financial aid. That's what they told me back then. Also if I remember correctly here in Florida if you prove you've been living here for more than a year you'll get a discounted tuition. e.g Driver license, or lease etc. Your spouse can even provide his documents on your behalf.

I'm in Florida also and yes that's exactly what I was told. they can only allow me to start if I have a ssn and can prove that my gc is pending and will also get to pay in state tuition if I can prove that I'm a Florida resident

@🤫🤫 I’ve had my ssn & work permit from a few years ago so maybe that’s why I didn’t run into that issue. my background check required my SSN as well.

@gigi my lawyer said using financial aid now might affect the pending AOS. I believe financial aid is for citizens and legal non citizens (green card holders)
