Estimated Waiting Time for Filing I-485
Hey everyone, I'm currently working as a postdoc on a J visa, and it looks like my program will be going on for another 2.5 years. I've recently filed an I-140. The PD is not current, and there is a significant delay for filing the I-485 application. Additionally, since filing the I-140, I am unable to apply for other positions. Feeling a bit worried about what might happen once my program wraps up. If my PD still isn't current by then, I won't have an EAD card and won't be able to apply elsewhere. It's a bit of a pickle! Any thoughts or suggestions on how to handle this situation? Do you reckon the filing date will move up anytime soon? Thanks in advance for any advice you might have! Cheers

When did you apply for I-140? There is hope if you still have 2.5 years of J1, and you are from ROW. Do you need to waive the 2 years requirement on J1, that's another thing you can do while waiting to be current. Overall, I would encourage you to be positive as there is a chance of being current in less than 2 years from now. Goodluck! From a former J1 fellow

Thanks for your warm message. I filed i140 on March 20th. Fortunately I don't have 2 year home residency.
