EB1 Interview at San Francisco FO
Hi,
The online status for our (husband & wife) EB1 case changed to ‘Interview was Scheduled’ 3 days back.
The full online status reads - “we scheduled an interview for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, Receipt Number xxx. We will mail you an interview notice. Please follow any instructions in the notice.”
We have already submitted medicals & I-131, I-765 & I-140 are approved. I -131 of dependent is under renewal.
PD is current. And FO is #SanFrancisco.
1. Has anyone attended an #interview at San Francisco office for EB1? Could you share your experience?
2. Were you & your spouse interviewed together or separately?
3. What documents were you asked to carry with you?
4. Did they confirm at the interview whether you were approved for I-485?
Thanks
A

@A M how long did it take for your status to change from “interview to be scheduled” to “interview scheduled”? and how far out did they schedule you?
I’m also waiting for an interview at SF FO
A MApr 3, 2023
@P H It took about a week or so for the status change. It’s only been 3 working days since then so we haven’t received the notice yet. hoping to get it by mid-week so we know the date of the interview.

I just finished my interview, I'm EB-3, but I don't think there is a difference in the process. I brought tons of papers, but they asked originals only for documents that being used to come to US (passport in my case), DL, birth certificate. They had a copies of my documents from the time of submission, so all the copies I printed was not needed. They asked if I served in military, checked my military service book. I was divorced, but they didn't ask about originals, just asked if I am divorced. for married couples probably better to bring all the papers. in general, my lawyer said to bring all of the originals and copies of the documents you submitted with your application.
The questions itself were about my i-485. like "have you ever being convicted...." etc. so she just checked all my answers again. the only thing she asked is a proof that I am still employed with the same employer and the same title. I had a paper from my company about that, but they asked me about paystubs, which I was not notified about by my lawyer, but she said it is not really important anyway, so just would be nice if I had.
I also had a speeding ticket and didn't think it is considered to be "yes" as an answer to one of the questions in i-485. Something about citations from the officer. I told her about that and she made a changes in my papers and asked me to sign those corrections, but said that it does not really matters in the decision.
The officer being nice, cannot complain. usually I can complain a lot about USCIS, but not this time 🤣
And I was waiting about a month for the interview to be scheduled since the moment I got a notification that the interview is ready to be scheduled
And no, they just tell you that you have to get mail with the decision

I got denied just right now. I was expecting that to be honest, since I am in pending asylum status and didn't maintain any status while waiting for my asylum 🙂

@P H just got the notices dated end of March. They’ve scheduled our interview for first week of May so from the time our status changed to ‘interview has been scheduled’ it is exactly 5 weeks out.

@A M I am wondering if you’ve completed your interview and how was your experience (and spouse’s)?

@P H The interview went fairly well. We reached 30mins prior for check-in at the reception - had to present our interview notices & passports, they clicked a photo & took fingerprints. We were allowed to carry a backpack with all paperwork in it and our watches, wallets n phones. We were then allocated a room & the IO took us in 10mins after our allotted timeslot.
He introduced himself, made us take an oath and then sign a form where we were agreeing to not have our attorney present for the interview (we had signed a G28 form earlier for our application as everything is being handled by a law firm appointed by my husband’s company). We were interviewed together.
He asked us to handover interview notices, all passports current n old, state IDs, EADs & Social security cards.
He started the interview with my husband who is the primary. He went through ALL the details mentioned on the I-485 application form (personal details, parent’s details, employment, marriage, addresses etc) for BOTH of us.
He asked for last date of entry to US. As this was different to what was filled 2 yrs back, he made a note of it & asked for the latest I-94 as supporting document.
Employment questions were name of company, designation, location address, dates of employment - same for previous employments mentioned on the form.
He then asked the yes/no questions that are under Part 8 of the I-485 form.
For the question ‘have you ever been arrested, cited, charged or detained’ we informed him about traffic citation we received after our application was filed in 2021 and he made a note of the details of the citation & it’s outcome. He said normal speeding citations won’t affect our admissibility-didn’t ask to see any evidence.
He then asked to see original marriage certificate, original birth certificates, joint bank statement, joint lease/utility bills etc. Basically evidence of marriage.
He examined the medicals we had mailed to USCIS in November 2021 and confirmed they were still valid since they were less than 2 yrs old.
He made a copy of our documents he initially asked for, even though we were carrying copies along with all the originals.
Finally he informed us that he needed to do mandatory background checks as a part of the process. Visa numbers were available so as soon as he got the background check clearance he would approve our case. It could be same day or next week.
He also said he could not confirm when the online status would change after approval as they don’t update it-but if the online status doesn’t change or we don’t get the GC in a few weeks we can only enquire regarding the status 120 days after the interview! If they need anything a RFE would be issued.
He then proceeded to give each of us a ‘Notice of Interview Results’ where the option of ‘your case is being held for review’ was selected.
So it’s a wait & watch now. Hoping for a speedy approval 🤞

@A M thank you so much for sharing!! did they interview you & spouse together or kept you separated?
I hope you hear good news very soon!
A MMay 8, 2023
@P H We were interviewed together. The online case status has already changed to ‘New card is being produced’ today so we now wait for the cards to arrive :)

@A M Omg congrats!!!🎉

@A M, we had our interview today at SF. The officer told she will approve and we will receive card in 2-3 weeks. Gave us the letter that says our case is being reviewed. When we came home, our status had changed to “Interview was completed and my case must be reviewed”.
Now I am freaking out, since many people get stuck in the above status for very long. Did this happen with you? How long after your interview did you status change to approved?
A MMay 19, 2023
@Master Mind I’d say wait a few days n see. Our IO told us that currently visa numbers were available so …if the background checks come through the same day he would approve the same day (Friday 5th May) else next week. Our status moved from ‘Interview was scheduled’ on Friday 5th May to ‘New card is being produced’ on Monday 8th May then ‘Case was Approved’ on Tuesday 9th May. We received the approval notice on Monday 15th May & same day status changed to ‘Card was mailed to me’. We finally received the Green Cards on Wednesday 17th May & status changed to ‘Card Was Delivered To Me By The Post Office’. Hope it’s as fast for you too! Do you have any updates yet?
Master MindMay 26, 2023
@A M sorry for the delay in relying. Luckily it was fast for us too. we have already received our cards. Thank you for all the insights!
