I always file myself even though I have an attorney. Keep to copies of the application and payment you send for your reference. Make sure to read all instructions not to miss anything. You need to use black ink pen, write your name and alien number on top of each application page as well as on the back of your passport-style photos. Write “N/A” in fields that don’t apply to you. Sign the application. Proofread it and ask someone else to check it for you too. My husband once had his package returned because check he included was for the wrong amount. Other than that, we never had an issue. We filed about seven i765 applications ourselves
