EAD RENEWAL - Letter of notice “extra remittance”

Good morning ,
My PD is 09/30/21 , my first EAD was approved on Feb 2022, in which that case it is about to expire. On Nov 17th I sent in the new forms with the credit card form for payment and a letter requesting a renewal and explaining that my case was outside normal processing times (also according to them on my uscis profile page) . I got a letter saying my payment form is being destroyed because, that I applied for benefits with extra remittance. Because I never received a receipt number I called USCIS and they said my case looks” normal “ that on Nov 28th there was an update for “pending for interview scheduling” . the only reason they could’ve denied my EAD renewal was if my i485 had been approved , but since it’s still pending they don’t know why I got that letter
does anyone here have a similar situation ? please share thanks

turns out I got two receipt numbers yesterday
which makes me think that sometimes the agents we speak to on the phone doesn’t really know half of the things they could’ve said that since my i485 is pending I don’t need to pay for renewal . anyway , thanks everyone who answered

my understanding is if you have a pending I-485 renewal is free . so you didn’t need to pay
