ead healthcare workers
anyone have experience in getting ther initial EAD expedited based on the fact they are a healthcare worker? I know they said they would expedite all EAD renewals, but this is my first EAD. I was contemplating calling them and asking for expedite based on my active nursing license.
Has anyone been successful with an initial EAD expedite? Or do I need a job offer as well?

You can try do it solely based on your active nursing license, it should be enough! and use humanitarian reason

my experience is as follows, I am a doctor, I made an expedite request for my i765 (not renewal) a month ago, I did it on my own and I also did it through my congressman, I have called every Wednesday since I made the request , I still haven't had a response from them, they asked my congressman for the evidence to support the case, I sent it to him a week ago and I still don't have an answer, every time I call they tell me the same thing that will be denied by which is only for people who are renewing not for initial applications, however I see many here in this community who have made their initial requests and have requested an expedite request and have been approved, it is really very frustrating to see how this system acts, I just Talk to them and make a new expedite request because the agent who assisted me told me that it was the most convenient, but a week ago I called and they told me that it was not possible because it was pending. She told me clearly that they would deny me because it is not a renewal application.

@jj : did you have a job offer as well with your expedite request?
@Tina Cot : how long from the expedite request did it take for you to get the card? 2 weeks? 1 month?

Bio 10/13/21
Jan 3 - I submitted the request through the congressman’s website. Immediately received an auto reply as confirmation.
Jan 10 - congressman’s staff called me and asked more about my case and asked for evidence (job offer)
Jan 11 - i emailed my evidence and staff emailed me that she sent my request to uscis, she also forwarded the email confirmation she got from uscis so i am sure that she really sent it.
Jan 19 - she emailed me saying the expedite was approved and forwarded the email from uscis saying “This case will be routed for expedited processing.” No updates on my case online. Still showing as “case is being actively reviewed”
Jan 20 - got a notif from Lawfully and saw that my i765 updated to “new card is being produced” and i131 updated to case closed.
Jan 25 Card was produced
Jan 26 Card was picked up by USPS
Jan 27 Card was delivered

Same as J J. Because it is not a renewal I cannot submit an expedite request as healthcare worker. I finally raised one as severe finatial loss just it case it works, but I don't have hopes. I want EAD to move to another job so it will be difficult for me to get it approved.
Tina CotFeb 3, 2022
mine is not renewal, mine is also initial application. i am a RN
Ana G CFeb 3, 2022
Tina, I guess you were not working at that moment, right? I called 3 times trying to raise the ER as healthcare worker. All the times they asked me when my previous EAD expired, when I said first time they said no way to raise ER under that reason. I bet that when you explained them your situation they did your ER based on severe finantial lost. That plus you work in healthcare field incresed significantly your chance.

This is the exact email the congressman staff who assisted me sent to USCIS:
This inquiry is regarding:
Primary Member of Congress: Rep. Brad Schneider
Primary Staffer: Patrice Campbell
Description: Dear Congressional Liaison,
Our constituent XXXX applied for her EAD back in August of 2021 and completed her biometrics in October. XXXX is a registered license nurse through Illinois and received a job offer as a nurse. Due to current world crisis with COVID 19 and the severe strain on the health care system and nurses. I humbly asked that you consider expediting her case for humanitarian reason.

Happy for you Tina. Probably doing it with congressman leaves the interpretation directly to the officer and in the moment they see healthcare worker it increases chances. As I mentioned, if you try to do it calling USCIS it is imposible just as a healthworker because one of the steps is to include date of expiratiom of previous EAD.
Tina CotFeb 3, 2022
@Ana G C it was clear from the USCIS post that the ER for healthcare workers is for renewals only. That’s why i took a chance to reach out to my congressman cause i know that they have staff who can directly reach out to uscis in a way that we cant. I say give it a try, worst that can happen is you get denied, but whatbif you get approved?
Ana G CFeb 3, 2022
You are right. But just trying to give an explaination to other people why some healthcare workers are getting approved even it is not a renewal.
jen sFeb 4, 2022
I requested expedite for my initial 765 twice as a healthcare worker. both were denied. according to USCIS email, my case does not meet the expedite criteria.. so i believe it's because mine is inital ead..
sem manFeb 4, 2022
thanks @Tina Cot for the info! i think whats key might be job offer + healthcare and using congressional support. Its ridiculous they didn’t include initial eads with that uscis guidelines.
@ Jen s: did you have a job offer when you attempted to expedite?
@Ana G C : i too am trying to switch jobs. I can not mentally stay at this job with how crazy it is. hopefully using a new job offer and congressional support they don’t look too closely. All they know - I could have been fired/ended employment on my current job 🤷🏻♀️
jen sFeb 4, 2022
@sem man yes I had both job offer and my license. they didn't even ask for it. just told me to wait 7 business days for expedite result and evetually they denied :(
sem manFeb 4, 2022
@jen s : I wonder if you tried to expedite using a congressman if you would get a different result? it can’t hirt to try!
jen sFeb 4, 2022
@sem man yes... I think i should reach out to congressman at this time :( thanks
Ana G CFeb 4, 2022
Jen s, I can feel your pain.

RN, filed for expedited process on 1/6/22. so far status shows expedited request received 27 days now. no movement since. EAD expires 3/29. original Pd 10/2/21
Ana G CFeb 4, 2022
Mine is so weird. 30min after calling I received an email requesting the evidences. But at the same time my status changed to ER denied. I sent evidences anyway but it looks bad.
Ana G CFeb 4, 2022
FYI, my ER has just been approved. I only sent support letter from my boss and the offer letter of my current position. I said I am a healthcare worker and my application is pending since Feb 1st. I didn't mention in my evidences I will lose job or financial impact since I didn't lose my job bcs I have a H1B. I will keep you posted when I see movements of my EAD card.
tora mFeb 11, 2022
does anyone know if the renewal has to be in the same
EAD category as previous EAD?
Ana G CFeb 11, 2022
To be considered a renewal it has to be in the same category, otherwise is considered the first application.
tora mFeb 11, 2022
thank you!!
sem manFeb 12, 2022
@Ana G C thats great news! I tried hsing my congressman’s office. but they were useless and said they couldn’t really help me. So I called and requested an expedite myself on 2/9. If I don’t hear back by next week I will try to get my senator’s office involved.
Ana G CFeb 12, 2022
Good luck!
