DS260
Hi everyone, I have a question regarding filling out the DS-260. When I received the welcome letter from the NVC, it included a list of required documents such as my birth certificate, police records, and passport. I obtained the police records, had them translated, and sent them to my lawyer. However, she told me that these documents were only needed at the interview, so she would not submit them. Since I am not a lawyer, I agreed at the time. Months later, I became concerned about not being documentarily qualified (DQ). I insisted that she submit an inquiry to the NVC to ask about the delay. After I threatened to send it myself, she finally did. Weeks later, the NVC responded, requesting what else? the police records. She says it’s happening a lot lately, but I don’t think so. Could this situation have been prevented? Do you think the lawyer should have known better? I ended up having to resend the documents, pay again for translation, and now I am waiting for a response from the NVC.

you don't really need a lawyer to simple things like that, just logging to your account summit the documents they requested for.

yes, most of these lawyers seem to shift into immigration law because it pays better. Before hiring a lawyer google them find out what their background is most of these lawyers are coming from family law or small claims then transitioning do your due diligence and make sure your lawyer has atleast a decade of immigration law experience and they are members of A.I.L.A otherwise you’ll be the one teaching them how to handle your case. and some just file things incompetently then hook you for life, coz God forbid your case gets denied you’ll go back to them to correct their mistakes and all this time they are charging you. You need to let your lawyer know they are in breach of duty, duty of care, and causation. then file a formal complaint with the board of ethics. make sure to email them so you have a paper trail and can proof you confronted them about their incompetence.

Yeah everything that is needed from you by NVC is needed to be submitted that way your case doesn't get delayed and denied and to avoid RFE. I did mine for my mom all alone no help no joint sponsor. I was DQ-ed and waiting for her consulate interview and medical. Also, all the documents that is submitted in NVC you must bring all of the the original copy with you. You can also have it photocopy just incase
