will the DMV accept only the EAD for drivers license renewal?or will they also require a passport.My passport is expired and won’t get the new one in time

yes they will, in my experience at least
but take other documents to be safe

I used my EAD together with my foreign driver license to get my MD driver license. They will accept your EAD but it must have been renewed because they won’t grant an extension date beyond the expiration date of your EAD. If your EAD has expired then you won’t be approved.
