yes, you can renew with an EAD or I-485 approval receipt not any other Receipt

They may go to secondary verification, that’s what happened to me - they wouldn’t accept the receipt.

i did my Texas license with my passport, ssn , i94 and some mail as proof of address

my i94 doesn’t says final date cuz I was F1 student. I have a valid passport , and SSN. but not approved i485

I got mine using the I-485 receipt. As
mentioned they need to do a verification step confirming your lawful presence in the US using a system called SAVE (this is a USCIS system). I personally didn’t get immediately cleared so it added another month and a second trip to DPS to finish the paperwork
