You're good. You don't have to file i-485 for applicants that live outside America

my spouse is outside the USA. so I have to wait until his arrival in order to submit the i485?

ok, so once the I-130 is submitted and it’s processing through NVC and the us consulate I can apply for I-486 before he comes?

Once your I-130 is approved, he will begin the green card process abroad.

no no no, your spouse is outside the US, you apply for i130 follow all the step with i130 once it is approved she/he will do the interview at the consulate. and get her visa to the US. when she/he comes here they will give a paper at the airport you will pay a fee and they will mail the greencard. you DO NOT HAVE TO APPLY FOR I485 BECAUSE THE SPOUSE IS OUTSIDE THE US. if you need more clarification follow some immigration group on Facebook and people will help. like I said, just do everything they ask you for i130 once your spouse get the visa to the US, she/he will automatically have a greencard and you will pay a fee before they mail it to you

Does the visa issued at the consulate allow multiple entries or just a single entry? I ask in case it takes a long time for the GC to be mailed.

astou, it is just for one entry, he will get the visa to come here. if you pay the GC fee as soon as he get here, you will get the GC in about a month or two months. after that to go out of the US again he will apply for travel document i131
