DIY asylum application experience sharing — just hoping to start a discussion and get some advice.
#I was detained at the border for about six months in 2024 and was granted asylum through the immigration court. After that, I applied for my EAD (work permit) and SSN on my own. In 2025, I spent about six months preparing and filing my green card application by myself, and received the receipt notice about a month later. Then I completed biometrics in January 2026. What should I expect next in the process, and roughly how long will it take? Is there anything I should be doing at this stage? Are there any important things I should pay attention to or avoid? I’d really appreciate any advice or shared experiences.

important things: sumbitting your medical exam to avoid rfe or a noid what to expect: most of the people i know including myself have been waiting for two years and still waiting for approval so dont be disappointed if thats your case too, gotta be patient, although all cases are different and you might be lucky and get it approved faster than the rest.
