It was a regular credit card with 1K limit. Even more, it became a part of the credit history once I added an SSN to my bank account.

Wow, this is great news! Can you share a little more about it? For example, which BOA credit card it was? did you have to go to the bank to apply for it or just did it online?

If you have an ITIN (eg if you filed taxes but don’t have an SSN, then you’ll have an ITIN), there are some credit card companies that give you a credit card based on your ITIN. Since you likely don’t have credit history in the US without an SSN, you’ll need to apply for a secured credit card first. But if you use it responsibly, within a year or so you’ll have enough credit history to get approved for a regular unsecured credit card.

I have Amex cards applied here need a US bank account statement as address proof and a ID proof ie passport of your country they basically check if you have credit history

i have a card at bank of america. when you add ssn to your account you will have credit history already. so yes, go and apply for credit card. if you will get credit card today and ssn after 1 year, your credit card will build you 1 year history
