I am not sure the answer but for some reason my lawyer told me to wait until after my green card was approved. I thought it was kind of weird but they said I didn’t have enough time to change all my documents before application. don’t ask me for the logic on “after” green card.

I suggest you wait till you get everything sorted. the system is delicate and something huge like a name change can really trigger delays

don't change yet till after citizenship actually, no need to, it'll just confuse the USCIS especially since your application is pending

I was planning on doing the same thing I mean when I went to get married they didn't even ask in my country it's different when you get married your name is change except if you wish to keep it. I wasn't giving the option
