Changing Employer
I'm considering changing employers while my I-485 is still pending and would like advice on how to proceed. Has anyone gone through a similar situation and can offer suggestions?

if your I-485 has been pending for over a 180days and your I-140 is approved, you can easily port to a new employer. Just make sure your new employer is willing to fill out the I-485J form for you

If the new employer is willing to complete the form, is it necessary to involve a lawyer in this process? Additionally, what are the steps if we need to extend the EAD before the I-485 is approved?

IMO, it's not necessary to get a lawyer, but I will advise you to get one just to make sure you aren't missing anything. The 485J is only sent to the USCIS if you get an RFE, or you have an interview. otherwise, you just hold on to it. Also, make sure your new job is the same or similar to the old one. As for EAD renewal, I heard you can renew it up to 6 months before it expires. If you already joined your new employer, then the 485J would be one of the documents you will need to submit for the renewal.

Do you know if it's acceptable to transition from a fast-food restaurant to a different type of restaurant job?

@MR Gentleman what matters is job description... not type of company
A janitor at SpaceX is same as a janitor at McDonalds.. that's what matters to USCIS.. Job description

Is it necessary to submit Supplement J as soon as we begin working with a new employer, or should it only be submitted if it's requested during the interview or in response to an RFE (Request for Evidence)?
