Birth certificate rfe
I have seen many posts with people getting rfe for birth certificate. Do they not submit it initially with their application? If yes, why they still get rfe?

yes, if they feel the one you submitted is not issued by the right authority. You have to check with folks from the same country as you @Charlie SC

Check the visa reciprocity tables for your country for the type of document accepted. The link is below. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country.html

Yes I did and still got an RFE for Birth Certificate. My Attorney complied multiple pages of evidence including USCIS website info about birth certificate from specific county and how they wanted as original and the translation.

yeah I did get rfe for birth certificate. My employer uses a big-name law firm so I’d imagine what they sent was on in the first place, but anyway they responded to the rfe with another certificate (plus I’m sure they attach other stuff to the response).
I am still waiting for response/update. It’s been ~62 days since response received by them, case still says ‘corresponde received and uscis is reviewing it’ 🥲

Got RFE for birth certificate. responded with the same birth certificate copy I had previously sent. I didn’t include any additional attachment or document. Case status “RFE received” for over a month now

@Em Same situation, only difference is ‘RFE Response Received’ status has been same for over 100 days and counting!

mostly, rfe is because they are not original nor issued within 1 year of birth

@mr tp USCIS states it doesn’t have to be an original so you are incorrect in one part of your response. On their checklist for initial evidence in support of a I-485 application, they list ‘a copy of your birth certificate’.
