Asylum Decision
Salam and Hello everyone, I wanted to ask for your advice about my asylum case. I applied in January 2024 and had my interview in August 2025. It has now been about 13 months since my interview, and I’m still waiting for a decision. Do you think it would be worth considering a mandamus lawsuit at this point, or would you recommend waiting longer? I would really appreciate your thoughts.

@Ahlam k
have you tried to submit an inquiry through your US representative? I did this after waiting for almost a year for a decision. They responded to me via the US representative and said my application was going through an extra review process and few weeks later they sent a decision which was approval.

Go to your representative’s official website and look for a section called “Help with a Federal Agency” or “Immigration/USCIS Assistance.”
You’ll usually need to complete a privacy release form and provide your USCIS receipt number, A-number (if applicable), and a brief explanation of your situation and why you’re requesting assistance. Their office can then contact USCIS to ask about the status of your case or request additional information.
You can find your U.S. Representative by entering your ZIP code on the House of Representatives website.

@Yes EB
you can always reach out to your representative regardless of the circumstances and based on my experience USCIS usually gives them more information about the status of your case. My decision was issued back in February of 2024 under the previous administration.

@A.I I I I got a call back from Representative Larsen’s office and booked an appointment with them. I also submitted my privacy release form. Could you please tell me what happens after that? How long does it usually take for USCIS to respond after the representative’s office contacts them? And how long did it take in your case?

@A.I I I submitted an inquiry through Washington representative Rick Larsen . I followed all your suggestions.
