Asylee applying for Citizenship
Hello All,
I’m little confused, My asylum case was granted in 2016. I applied for Green card a year later in 2017, I got approved in 2018. instead of backdating my green card to 2016, USCIS put 2017 as date were I became LPR. It says, asylee can apply for citizenship after 5 years after being granted asylum. so my question is should I count 5 years starting from when I was granted asylum (2016) or the date on my green card (2017)

it’s not based on the date of your asylum grant but the date on which USCIS issues the green card so you will be eligible next year

it is not base on the date u were granted asylum.. they calculate the date on ur green card.. so u r not eligible to be a citizen yet..

I think it's 4 years after your green card was approved. It's better to call uscis to get the right answer. Call the number and say technical issues, you'll be able to speak to a live person.

it is not 4years... it is 4years 9months.. which will be 3months for his 5years green card anniversary
... he doesn’t need to call USCIS for that answer.. the answer is on the USCIS early filing calculator on their website

Anyway when asylee applies for green card, they backdated for 1 year.

@K L, you’re right. it’s 4 years from the date of ASYLEE green card issue.
