Are you allowed to do Door Dash if you have an SSN but no work authorization?
I was just looking over the sign up page and they never stated anything about requiring US work authorization which made me wonder if it's required at all. If you are in one of these states that offer driver's license to out of status immigrants that have an SSN, could you use such licenses to to do Door Dash? just curious.

door dash uber lyft etc is considered being self employed so yes you need to have a work visa or EAD unrestricted to be able to or that might cause issues to your cases in the future i guess

i don’t want to sound pessimistic or judgmental as some people do when they answer this question. But, technically, no. You cannot perform any activity that gives you an income if you dont have a work authorization. A driver’s license alone does not grant this right. It’s best not to risk it.

yes you can doordash and uber eats dont ask for work authorization just social and they do a background check. just sign up as a bicycle. You can get drivers license in New york work work authorization .

don’t try it, ssn will show them you worked and based on that you can get deported if you’ve not filed already. A friend worked with his ssn on a tourist visa and got deported last week.

I don’t believe there a single migrant who didn’t do any kind of under the table job pending work authorization. you’ve to survive legally somehow. besides unauthorized work for up to 180 days is forgiven. just make sure to pay ur taxes. so yes u can Uber, doordash, lyft or Grubhub.

people have their personal opinions & some get away with some things with luck but legally speaking you cannot and its a fact. if you have a friend that is a permanent resident or citizen and is willing to create an account for you on those platforms that’s doable to make some cash on the side pending your cases. but once again legally speaking you are not allowed to. the choices remain yours of course my friend

exactly people worked understand the table without using their real names. you see the difference

in his case he’s got a social security in his name and IRS links it to income made. it’s not safe. Quila is right. that’s a better alternative

legally u can’t do nothing that will give u income, gig work like doordash etc will accept u but at ur own risk, someone say here working under the table, u are not working under the table with ur ssn u are in fact on top of the tower where everyone could see u. the best thing I could advice is to work without ur ssn I can’t tell u how.

given all the messages I’m reading, I’ll be more direct @Chlo Okra. It’s illegal to get ANY form of income if you dont have an EAD card. With some visas you can only work for specific employers. No visa will be given for anyone to work as a delivery driver, so they only way you can work for Door Dash is with an EAD card or once you are a resident/citizen. Even with a student visa, you can only work for the school or for a specific employer listed in your I-20 when you apply for CPT. Many people work under the table and they might never find out, but if they do, you will be in trouble. The decision is yours, but I wanted to let you know that everyone telling you it’s ok to do it IS WRONG!

I got an extra 180 days extension based on my pending application, but if I need to work under the table, I will. Just do something that won’t show on your social security and you can be paid under the table.

guys, technically, you are working illegally. Not because they dont ask for proof of employment, it means that it’s legal. you are all adults and can do whatever you want, BUT STATE THE FACTS. You all know that doing something like this is risky if been caught. Illegal work is grounds for denial. STOP ACTING CASUAL ABOUT THIS!!!!! ask a lawyer and you’ll see

and by the way…i have myself been in that dilemma and I know the desperation. I don’t want to act all hollier than and judgemental. I just want to warn you about the potential risks.

my advice is get under the table job and that’s it. using ur ssn without EAD make vulnerabilities high, gig work and self employment perfect for u, they can’t deport u simply because u are working illegally expecially when u end up marry USC in the future all ur illegal work BS will be forgiven

I have an SSN which I got 10 years ago that says ''Valid for Work Only With DHS Authorization''. Now I am back to the US and this company who promised to sponsor me for E1 non-immigrant employment visa is taking advantage of my labor force and they have not applied for my adjustment of visa status yet for the past 4 months. I have a b1/b2 visa and I entered in Florida from b1 section which is for business trip purpose without work authorization. I have 2 months remaining to leave the country (I will never do overstay here) and my company hasn't paid me for the past 5 weeks. I am having financial difficulties, therefore I started doing doordash/ubereats to survive. My question is; if this stupid company management finally takes an action and apply for my visa one of these days, will I have a trouble on getting my E1 visa? Will USCIS come to know that I activated my SSN and used it for unlawful work activity coz I am not authorized to work in the US with the SSN I have. It says on internet that if I make more than 600 usd within the fiscal year, I should file taxes with 1099 form which is going to be sent to me by Ubereats/Doordash. If I made more than 600 usd and I dont file taxes, will they be able to realize that I used my SSN on Ubereats/Doordash? I know these companies do background check while registering to their platform, they dont do e-verification coz you are not their employee anyway, you are just an independent contractor. Therefore, do you guys think when Uber/Doordash app do background check, US Social Security Administration receives your information and they realize that you dont have work authorization and they inform USCIS or CBP for this? or am I getting paranoid? How will they even realize that I used my unauthorized SSN and made money if I didnt file taxes? I think I can file taxes for this unauthorized work after I marry a US citizen later on by paying the late filing penalties anyway. Has someone here ever experienced using their SSN which doesnt give them work permit, but used it to make money with Uber/Grubhub/Doordash/Postmates/Amazonflex or any other apps and had an adjustment of visa status to an employment visa without any problem or had a green card after this unlawful/unathorized work activity without any issues? I will really appreciate it a lot if you guys share your thoughts or if you have an experience on this and share it with me. Thanks

@Queens nyc- you said that you had uber/doordash accounts and you made money even way before you got an ajustment of visa status done and you got your work permit. I have 4 questions if you dont mind responding: 1- Did you fill 1099 form and filed taxes before you got AOS? 2-Was your SSN the type that didnt give you work authorization while you were doing uber/doordash before you got AOS? 3-Did you file taxes for uber/doordash earnings after you got your AOS? 4-Are you still doing uber/doordash with the same SSN despite you have a work visa which technically gives you eligibility to work only for that specific job but no other jobs?
