anyone stopped by ICE with just combo card, no green card? what happened?
I’m kinda freaking out and just wanna fact-check this with people who know. So my parents are traveling to see me for a few weeks. They’ve got 10-year visas, they’ve always followed the rules, visiting once or twice a year for short stays. Me, I’m under adjustment of status right now, waiting on my green card. I don’t have it yet, but I do have my combo card (work/travel authorization with my A-number on it). I’ve always felt secure, I’m not in removal proceedings. But now, with everything going on in the country, I’m nervous. We plan to drive from DC to NC in a rental car and I keep worrying: what if there’s a checkpoint, or if ICE pulls us over? I’ve heard stories that if you don’t have a green card or citizenship, they can just detain you, even if you have pending adjustment (I’m under VAWA and pending 485). That would be devastating for my parents to witness. I’m debating if I should cancel the drive, take Amtrak instead, or just go for it. Part of my fear is, we don’t blend in as white/European-looking citizens, and I’m worried that makes us more of a target. Has anyone here with pending adjustment (no green card yet) actually been stopped on a road trip? What happened? Is it safe to drive, or am I overthinking? Thanks in advance.

i suggest not to go. i’m in the same position, on ead/ap and pending aos for vawa. i’m in cali and planning to go to las vegas. my lawyer instructed me not to go as if i encounter ice, it’s going to be hard to resist the detain as they don’t listen. ice is not our friend. so if you can avoid travel, avoid it at all cost. don’t waste your years of waiting. we’re close to the finish line. i’m a dec 2023 filer. stay where you are. don’t risk

my friend is on the same boat as yours. he got pulled over once in Tennessee and got let go my sheriff department officers with a warming, but not before asking a lots of questions about his and his friend's immigration status, and once in Arkansas by state trooper and got ticket for speeding. I doubt that ICE will be posted on highways to randomly check people, I suggest you go with how you feel about it. if you get stopped the outcome can be anything.

the answer is simple. seat your ass home until you get your greencard. some of you people like to go too unnecessarily places. find something else fun to do around you instead of driving around. let your parents understand your current situation is just temporary. best of luck.
