any experience?
Hi, I have a question about traveling outside the U.S. and reentry. I am a lawful permanent resident (green card holder). A few years ago, I had an asylum case, but it was terminated by an immigration judge without prejudice. I did not receive asylum. Later, I obtained my green card through a VAWA-based case. Now I need to travel to my home country briefly to renew/replace my damaged passport, and then return to the United States. Is it generally safe for me to travel and return as a green card holder in my situation?

you know that you don’t need to leave the US often times to renew a foreign passport. Most countries have a consulate. However regarding the asylum, it can be or won’t be an issue but if you were seeking a asylum from a place why would you wanna return especially if as I stated there’s a possibility to do it at a consulate. I might be wrong but that’s my thought.

Yes you can travel now there is not going to be any issue since it is terminated. However, for the passport renewal you can do in the USA in your country's consulate.

@working Capital My consulate does not handle this, so I have to travel back to my home country to get a new passport—and I am very worried about this situation.

@Umar lll by traveling back u putting yourself in risk it raise a question was your asylum claim fraudulent… that means you lied to immigration before while applying asylum… traveling back can raise this question anytime be careful I don’t recommend traveling back instead apply some type of travel document or wait for us citizenship
