After SSN, what next?
What are the first things one should do once they are in possession of their SSN? I'm thinking of getting a good health insurance and purchasing a home. Contributions please!

If you have a good income, you can do the two things you said. If you do not, you can use your SSN to apply for credit.

@Tina Au let your spouse add you as an authorized user on two of his/ her credit cards ( make sure to add your ssn to the application so they can start report you to the credit bureau) . wait 2 months then apply for yours get a job .. file your first taxes together then start looking to buy a home.. it’s not easy to get approval for a mortgage don’t forget to get state ID or DL .. this is what I did except the home purchase not yet .. my credit score now above 760 and I only have my ssn for 9 months

@Jessica V thanks for your comment. What exactly do you mean by applying for credit? You mean credit card?

@Tina Au Yes, apply for 1 credit card to start your credit history. After around 6 months, once your credit is established, you can apply for another credit card. You are going to need credit and a job when buying a house. Plus, to buy a house, you need to do your income taxes for the last 2 years.. so it’s not an easy process buying a house. But, don’t get/feel discouraged! You can apply for an ID in the state that you live and when ready, apply for your Driver’s license.

Hi @Tina Au congratulations on your card. Although @Jessica V is right about many things, I want to tell you that when buying a house each case is different and there are many ways to do it. If you allow me, I can advise you on the house and with your credit, that is my job currently.
