After approval of I-130 and I-485
Hello everyone, I recently received a notification that my I-130 and I-485 was approved but after 3 days of approval I checked the status of my I-130 and it says that it has been sent to “Department of State”. Does anyone know what this means and what the next steps would be?

Hi @Manvir Singh! If your I-485 has been approved and you received a notification that your case has been sent to the Department of State (DOS), it's unusual because the I-485 is typically processed by USCIS for adjustment of status within the United States. To get accurate information about why your case was sent to the DOS, I suggest contacting USCIS directly. They can provide you with the necessary information and guidance based on your specific case.

Sounds like you indicated on the i-130 that you were choosing consular processing yet filed an I-485 too, which is for adjustment of status from within the US, and somehow no one noticed. You need to get this sorted. Are you actually in the US or abroad?

@Manvir Singh again it would be advisable to reach out to USCIS directly for clarification. Contact their customer service or make an inquiry through the USCIS Case Status Online portal to inquire about the transfer of your case to the DOS. I assume that your partner is a USC. Did you get help from an Attorney?
