@la la if your Vawa is approved don’t you have a work authorization? if you have a work authorization, go and get your real id from your local dmv. Your advance parole is not for local traveling but international. Get a drivers license.

@bridges 5 I don’t think you understood my post. I did say I have an id card and an advance parole. My advance parole is the same as my EAD. My question is while driving through the check point can I present just the above documents or will I be detained because I don’t have a passport.

it would be more advisable to wait to have your passport renewed. they did asked my passport last time when traveller's state to state they said my driver license is not for flights is just temporary for driving

in my opinion you don’t need your passport when you have your other IS Id.

why will they ask you for passport when you are within the state? isn’t traveling within the state same as everyday commuting? correct me if I’m wrong please.

@F A these checkpoints are in all border states within 100 miles from borders ( south & north) They usually search vehicles if they suspect smuggling. I drove through Tombstone Arizona checkpoint during first trump term and when I stopped at my turn after slowing down after queue of cars, the officer just wished me good day. It's all depends on CPB OFFICER. Most common 1st question is : are you US citizen.

@la la everyone should avoid federal buildings /agents at the moment. We are seeing unusual behavior from this administration, it's all against what this country stands for. For your trip you don't need your passport, carry with you your driver license not necessary real ID as it's for driving not to cross international border + your EAD+ I485 RECEIPT +VAWA APPROVAL NOTICE WITH DEFFERED ACTION. @la la read your text, you didn't communicate that through. However you only need your your driver's license and your vawa approval notice. No need to carry your advance parole because that for international trips.

@Launica one what do you mean by not necessarily real ID? The information you just gave is wrong. It's like you don't understand what real ID is. Real ID comes with a star on the top right corner of your driver's license or state ID. it's much advisable you carry that than any other one and you can get that after you get a work authorization. If you have your real ID you don't need to avoid federal buildings. Real ID is prove that you are documented even though you don't have your green card.

@bridges 5 calm down! Real ID is to pass TSA not regular checkpoint inside the the territory, thus 100 miles checkpoint is not border crossing and me when I was as a tourist I don't stamp my passport at this checkpoint!!!! Do some research before you attack

@bridges 5 have you gotten a real id with advance parole? cause I was told by dmv unless you have an asylum you can’t get a real id with just advance parole so I’m wondering if you did?

@momo ham I do t know about advance parole as regards getting the real ID because I used my EAD with my approval notice I-751 to get it. But check your local dmv for clarification.

@momo ham you can get your real ID drivers license with your EAD don’t listen to what people say. People overnight suddenly have become immigration consultants so be careful of the type of information you take in.

I know what is real ID it will be mandatory at TSA point from May 07th 2025. It was planned since very longtime. This is all what you learned : the star on real ID lol The real ID is mandatory to board a plane (TSA+ Federal buildings) If you're driving your car and at any stop you're required to show your driver license only it doesn't matter if it with the star 🤣 And believe me I know very well what's this post asked for!! @Launica one well for your information English is my first language, so before you go about confusing people, you need to think twice. Real ID mean you have been through vetted which is why all states fro April or so next month would require real identification either it’s a driver license or state iD. Real ID is not a separate ID. it’s just Carrie’s a star to prove you have been properly vetted. And you don’t know what you are talking about.

@la la its ok just carry your EAD CARD or approve vawa i travel down there alot and i forgot my document and they always let me pass without search, they only ask if im a US citizen and i said no and most time they don’t really ask but have your document just in case, nothing to worry about.

@Launica one valid points I think they confused asf cause she got a real id as a conditional applicant not as a vawa and im telling her i went to dmv and dmv said no and she’s saying try my local dmv make it make sense

@momo ham I have no reason to lie or mislead you. I am a Vawa applicant like you I don’t have my green card yet but a 5 years work authorization and advance parole. All I took over to my dmv to get the real driver license Id was my EAD and notice of action approval for the EAD which they will request and the necessary two proof of address. And I am not a she but a he. Secondly it depends on your state also because each state are govern by different state laws. I reside in Nebraska. You don’t have to believe me. I have my real drivers license and that’s it. And I am not confused. If your state doesn’t allow you to get one it has nothing to do with the information I gave you. My state is a Republican state but I got one, so don’t cast a wide blanket. And sorry I meant your I-797 notice of approval not I-751 as indicated. Good luck!
