A05 category EAD
Hi community,
Has anyone applied for EAD under A5 category (based on approved asylum) recently? I have been waiting for 15 months for it. Already did online case inquiry through USCIS website twice but no response.
Since I am waiting for my Greencard as well(for 18 months now), I at least wanted to get the EAD so that I could get a real ID to fly domestically among other reasons.
Please share your experience with A5 category EAD.

you should be able to get a Real ID with the asylum approval notice and the I-94. your asylum was approved in court?

@Jhonny Zion : The EAD is automatic if asylum is granted by USCIS. However, it is not when asylum is granted by the court. In this case, the asylee must file a separate request for the EAD with USCIS.

@Arm G yes my asylum was approved in court. last year they gave me a real ID(validity less than 1 year) on the basis of the new I-94. this year when I went to renew with the same docs, they said rules have changed and I can’t get a real ID.

Ohhh that's why. when you get the approval on USCIS they send it automatically to your house. you should go to SSA to remove the conditions on SS card and go back to the DMV because that EAD is like optional because you already got your status on your approval notice and your new I-94. try again and talk with another employee
