sharmeen moona4d
@Alex brown are you from one of those countries? I don't know how filing mandamus can help during this. I am now just spiraling again

@Alex brown I’m on list. If affect AOS , I will just lose 5k. don’t do mandamus now, if you are on the list.

it seems like it’s for all immigrant visas including AOS process. nbcnews.app.link/UddMMfCEVZb

No green card If you are in the list. Doesn't matter if you are inside or outside of USA. It will probably stay like that until 2028 elections. So, start packing your luggages.

my lawyer said that it seems it will affect Consular processing only and not AOS, but it’s hard to know! He said we will be able to know soon, since the pause goes into effect Jan.21
Xhi Yhao4d
@G S you should change your lawyer then Trump has been issuing immigration bans to countries since mid last year, both AOS & consular will be affected, this is no exception

The visa suspension will not apply to temporary tourist or business visas, only immigration visas, the State Department confirmed to Forbes." *to add: The pause goes into effect Jan. 21 and “will remain active until the U.S. can ensure that new immigrants will not extract wealth from the American people,”

for now it’s only Consular!

this ban looks like it’s targeting consulate state department directed officer in consulates to use existing laws to deny cases. unless a memorandum is issued to USCIS like what happened before with the last ban.
Year of recovery 4d
USCIS already printed out a memorandum. And yes the pause is both AOS and consular. I am also a national of one on the ban list

Where's the USCIS memo? nothing on their page yet

@Year of recovery It’s true there’s a memorandum but that’s for the presidential act for the 39 countries that where banned last doesn’t now apply for the rest that falls under the 75 countries
Xhi Yhao4d
Y'all still don't get.. they don't want immigrants.. this is just a smokescreen...doesn't matter if you are AOS or consular... it's a pause for everyone

@Year of recovery where do you see the memorandum? Are you talking about PM-602-0194?

@Abe Moor please book flight quick, bullshit. these kind of folks are spreading/create rumors. @sharmeen moona Traditionally, if you were already inside the U.S., these entry bans did not directly apply to you. You wouldn’t be deported just because your home country was subject to a travel ban, and you could still apply for immigration benefits like extensions or change of status. https://www.rnlawgroup.com/uscis-is-citing-travel-bans-to-deny-change-of-status-what-you-need-to-know/

We don’t have anything official or solid from the department of state. All I have seen today are tweets and media articles. What we do know is: - a pause has been instituted at 75 consulates/embassies around the world as to immigrant visas. This is not a ban. - the purpose is to make sure immigrants do not take advantage of the welfare programs in the US. - from what we know this does not apply to nonimmigrant visas. (B1/B2; E2; L1; etc) - from what we know this doesn’t apply to immigrant cases pending in the US through adjustment of status.

The recent U.S. government action is a suspension of immigrant visa processing by the Department of State at U.S. consulates abroad, and it does not directly include Adjustment of Status (AOS) processing which is handled domestically by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). • The measure, effective January 21, 2026, indefinitely pauses the issuance of new immigrant visas for nationals of 75 countries. This primarily affects individuals seeking to immigrate to the U.S. from outside the country (consular processing). What I read

@s k only Consulates are pausing visa issuance as of now. AOS is safe. But USCIS can come out and blanketly adopt DOS rule and halt AOS too. Thats what happened with the intial 19 countries banned. USCIS made decision to stop immigration petition for the people from 19 countries after DOS issued the ban. Will the same thing happen this time? Who knows.
