@hd c That is a really good question!
Since you are doing CP I'm assuming you have no legal status at the moment such as DACA, tps, or any other type of visa. In your case I would not want to leave the USA even if AP was approved.
USCIS approves AP but CBP makes the final decision if they admit you in or not.
Don't see a reason why CPB would want to let you in.
