It’s been more than 3 years since I applied for asylum, 1 months after applying they took the fingerprints but that’s it. It just says that I should wait for my interview to be scheduled, but I wonder if there anything I can do?

you can try to expedite it. do you have any emergency reasons?

@Karina k: Expedite requests don't work. Not in this era. I will suggest you get with a licensed immigration lawyer to discuss your case and the possibility to file the writ of mandamus. (That's sueing USCIS so they do their job, and you need an immigration attorney for that process.)

@Lilo Pelekai I have a laywer who handling my case but that’s the first time I hear about mandamus thing! don’t you think you suing them will affect the decision and the interview process itself? I would be mad 🤣

@Karina k : Sueing USCIS does not guarantee a positive decision. The mandamus is a legal recourse for one branch of the government to force another one to do their job. It's timed; once USCIS is served with the suit, they have 120 days to either schedule your interview or grant a decision. (all asylum cases get an interview now). USCIS don't like being sued. So, whenever they are they want to make it go away ASAP. Their decision depends on the strength of your case and how well you're able to demonstrate reasonable fear to return to your country of origin. Don't lie. Because they're trained to detect that and it will follow you forever. Now, in your case, you've been waiting 3 years. While most field offices have 2 years to adjudicate asylum cases, some have 3. There's also a precedent where the mandamus filed within 5 years wait was rejected because the wait was deemed not long enough by a judge. I don't remember what case that was but I'm sure you can find it online. That's where I had randomly stumbled over it when looking for something else immigration related.
