2.5 years ? is it true?
Hi guys Is it true that the IR1/CR1 visa can take as long as +2 years if the foreign spouse is not in the US? I saw someone say they're on 2.5 and it's quicker if the spouse is already in the states? That's such a long wait...excruciating..

it's quicker in the US depending on the State you're in. My friend case took 4 years from out of the US

It’s currently taking 16-17 months from date of case received for consular processing

Definitely is taking longer unfortunately! My PD is May 2023 and got approved the end of June 2024. Have been DQ’d since July 24th 2024 and still waiting for a visa appointment. tomorrow it’ll be 8 months waiting for a visa appointment 🫠

@Jane Day 4 years. wow any reason why it took so long ? did they have to give in extra evidence ?
Jane DayMar 23, 2025
@Very Anxious It was processed at the Barbados Embassy. They deal with all cases from the Caribbean that might have been why.

@Melissa 🇺🇸 🇩🇴 CR1 R @Glenny M 🇩🇴 What causes the delays may I ask? I hope the process speeds up for you
Melissa 🇺🇸 🇩🇴 CR1 RMar 24, 2025
@anxious they are extremely backlogged and each case is processed differently

Wow. This sucks. I applied from the UK in Aug 2023 and still nothing, so not surprised to see this. 20 months!

@Jane Day that's very unusual. I hope it won't happen to too many people and they fix the backlogs. these are people's lives on hold :(

@Melissa 🇺🇸 🇩🇴 CR1 R @Fuzz Muzz wow and the UK is supposed to be one of the more faster ones 😳 is it consular processing ?

@Fuzz Muzz absolutely nothing for 20 months ? Is it still on the initial phase where it says priority date?

Fuzz MuzzMar 25, 2025
@Very Anxious I submitted it in August 2023 and it went to “Actively Being Reviewed” like 3 weeks later. Been in that state ever since. I submitted a request to my congressman 2.5 months ago, USCIS replied back with “within normal processing time.” It’s so frustrating. When I submitted it I never imagined it could take 2 (or more) years. Insanity. I can’t believe as US citizens we would still be treated so disgustingly. Why do we pay so much taxes if I can’t even bring my wife (of 8+ years!) to America?!

@Very Anxious By We’re applying from the UK, so that means it’s consular correct? The case started in Nebraska, went to Texas, and has now been at Vermont Service Center for 6+ months.

@Fuzz Muzz Yes that means it's Consular. Did you not get any approval or denial yet for the I-130? Ours is also 8 years. At Protomac center with an immigration attorney. No progress besides the notice of receipt. Did you receive that after you applied ? It's weird it's taking longer for the UK. They're usually faster. Do you have any RFEs or financials they need from you? That usually causes delays. These backlogs are like mental torment causing undue suffering. It's mind games with our lives.

@Fuzz Muzz is this for the I-130?

@Fuzz Muzz That's very unusual. The standard UK timeline for the whole process right now is around 17 months. Do you have any RFEs or financials outstanding ? Anything outstanding from your spouse ?

Fuzz MuzzMar 27, 2025
@Very Anxious Which is why I’m getting really anxious and frustrated. There is literally nothing outstanding, and there have been zero RFEs or anything. Just “actively being reviewed” since Sept 2023. Congressman route didn’t help (“within normal processing time”). And the “inquiry” date keeps getting pushed back, it makes absolutely no sense. It started at May when I first applied, and slowly has crept up to almost October now. Essentially moving the goal post. How can I ever inquire if the date keeps changing?! Starting to get really frustrated. I’m curious, in the scenario where I get an approval but very late, and I need the NVC to issue a visa extremely quickly so I can start my job/kids schools, could the London embassy expedite and process the visa fast if they wantsd to, or is that unheard of?
