10 years Green Card received - 8 days after the I-485 got approved - Marriage based. Please read till the end.
Hi everyone!
Here is my timeline:
October 2020: I got married to a USC
January 2021: My wife filed I-130 petition
January 2024: Interviewed and 3 days after the interview my I-130 was approved
Mars 2024: My lawyer filed a motion to terminate my removing proceedings case in the court due to my asylum case.
April 2024: DHS’ attorney approved the motion and The judge granted signed it.
May 2024: Filed I-485 application to register permanent residence
September 2024: Filed I-765 form for work permit
November 3rd 2024: RFE for my I-485
November 30th 2024: Responded to the RFE by uploading all the documents in my USCIS online account
December 3rd 2024: My I-765 was approved
December 7th 2024: Received my 5 years work permit which is useless now.
December 10th 2024: My I-485 was approved
December 16th 2024: Received my new unrestricted social security card
December 18th 2024: Green card received in my mailbox
Thoughts: Avoid conditional 2 years green card and Prioritize the 10 years green card. To do so you need to file only I-130 once it’s get approved then file I-485 to get it approved on the 2 years of your marriage’s anniversary
Thanks to my competent lawyer for her cheaper services: I paid her $4,000 to covering everything: Asylum cases at the court + Marriage based cases filing I-130 & I-485 + Help to respond to RFE for my I-485 + USCIS in-person interview for the I-130.
Note:
The processing time of my I-485 was estimated to 9 months when it was approved. Don’t be discouraged by the estimated time that shows in your status. It’s not accurate at all.
Patience is the key. Be patient and pray
My prayers and thoughts are with you.
Good luck to everyone!

@Larry And Daniela Giles Giles if the spouse is outside of the US you just need to file I-130 that’s all. Thanks 🙏

@keep Faith my wife was born here and she’s white, we got married April 2023 5 months after in September she filed i130, and in December the lawyer did my i485. this year July 30,2024 we had both interviewed together and the officer said I should answer all the questions about our marriage before he got to the i485 questions. it all went well as the officer said and we should expect approval soon, we going 5months now no update and our second anniversary will be in April 2025.

Hi @Rahim Kamara thanks for sharing your story. Each case is different. Maybe yours is taking time because of the background check that can take more than a year to complete. My background check took forever I was frustrated about it. If they approve your case after April 2025 you will get the 10 years green card. Otherwise you will get the conditional green card and you will have to start the process again in order to get the 10 years or citizenship. Good luck

@keep Faith okay brother thanks for the information I do appreciate you 🙏🏻

@Rahim Kamara you’re welcome!
Your second anniversary is soon in just 4 months If I were you I will pray to get it approved just after April 2025. So it will avoid you from paying the fee to fill I-751 form petition to remove conditions on residence

@keep Faith Hey friend! Congratulations on your approval! i am in similar situation, so asking for your opinion. i had my i 130 approved 2 weeks ago. Should i adjudicate my case with the judge or terminate case and move to uscis? Do i need to go for another interview for i485? Thanks for your help

Hi @Free Lancer
Thanks for reaching out. Please go ahead and tell your lawyer to file a motion to terminate your removal proceedings before immigration judge. This is not a good time to be in removal proceedings because you can be detained and deported by ICE even if you have an approved I-130 + pending asylum. And also your merit hearing is too far away. Many lawyers told me that it’s always wise to file a motion to terminate the removal proceedings ASAP then continue the adjustment of status with USCIS. Also If you have had an interview to get your I-130 approved then once you file your I-485 application with the USCIS you will probably not have any interview for your I-485. Good luck!
