πŸŽ‰ Visa Approved at U.S. Embassy Zambia Alxamdulilah.
Hey everyone, I just wanted to take a moment to thank this amazing community for all the help, guidance, and shared experiences throughout our immigration journey. Today was our interview at the U.S. Embassy in Zambia, and I’m so happy to share that our visa was approved! πŸ™Œ Here’s our timeline for anyone going through a similar process: πŸ“… Timeline: β€’ Priority Date (PD): June 6, 2023 (started as F2A) β€’ Upgraded from F2A to IR1: May 7, 2025 β€’ I-130 Approved: May 17, 2025 β€’ USCIS to DOS: May 22, 2025 β€’ NVC Welcome Letter: May 23, 2025 β€’ Documents Submitted to NVC: May 28, 2025 β€’ Documentarily Qualified (DQ): June 10, 2025 β€’ Expedite Request Sent to NVC: August 28, 2025 β€’ Expedite Approved by Embassy: September 30, 2025 β€’ Interview Scheduled: October 1, 2025 β€’ Documents Submitted to Embassy: October 20, 2025 β€’ Interview Date: October 23, 2025 βœ… Visa Approved: October 23, 2025 πŸ›‚ Passport Pickup: Next Friday βΈ» The interview itself was short, smooth, and friendly. The consular officer asked questions to both of us β€” some directed to me and some to my spouse. Here are the questions we were asked: β€’ When did we meet? β†’ We shared the date and how our relationship first started. β€’ How did we meet? β†’ Explained how we first got to know each other and how our relationship developed. β€’ When did we get married? β†’ Stated the exact marriage date and confirmed the location. β€’ How many times did I visit after the marriage? β†’ They wanted to confirm ongoing contact and visits after marriage. β€’ How did I go to the USA? β†’ I explained how I originally entered the United States (visa type and process). β€’ Has either of us been married before? β†’ Simple yes/no question β€” they check for previous marriages. β€’ Where do I work? β†’ They asked about my current job and location. β€’ When did I go to the USA? β†’ They wanted the date and context of my move to the U.S. β€’ Why was our case being interviewed in Zambia? β†’ We explained the reason for transferring our case to the U.S. Embassy in Lusaka. β€’ When did we arrive in Zambia? β†’ They asked when we entered Zambia for the interview process. One important thing I learned today β€” if the beneficiary does not speak English or the local language, the embassy will not allow any third-party interpreter. Only the U.S. citizen petitioner is permitted to translate during the interview. I actually traveled to Zambia to support my spouse for the upcoming interview, and I didn’t expect that the embassy would require me to interpret. Most U.S. embassies allow outside interpreters, so I had already arranged someone to help. However, the staff explained that only the U.S. petitioner can interpret for the beneficiary. We were lucky that I was there; otherwise, the interview would have been rescheduled. So, if you’re in a similar situation β€” especially those who transferred their case from another embassy β€” be ready for this new procedure. Make sure the U.S. petitioner is available to attend and interpret if needed. πŸ’‘ Important Tip for Zambia Applicants: When the NVC sends the appointment email, that date is not your actual interview date β€” it’s the document drop-off date. At that appointment, the embassy reviews your documents, and if everything is complete and up to date, they’ll then schedule your official interview date. So, make sure your civil and financial documents are current and correctly prepared before that appointment to avoid delays! I’m incredibly grateful to everyone in this subreddit. Reading your experiences helped us prepare so much, and it truly made a difference. Wishing everyone still waiting for their interviews or approvals the very best β€” your time is coming soon! πŸ’ͺπŸ’–

@Komal 123 Hi, I submitted an expedite under humanitarian reasons. I explained our case was delayed because it was initially filed when I was a green card holder, and I mentioned the financial burden of supporting my wife. I attached six months of money transfer receipts. I don’t really expect it to be approved, but since the embassy isn’t backlogged and it’s been three months since DQ, I figured it doesn’t hurt to try.
