Hey everybody, good to be on this forum. however I just have a few questions while waiting for this whole process.
1. Has anybody been able to add their spouse on lease without ssn, our apartment requires ssn so we can’t seem to do that.
2. has anybody been able to open a bank account yet without ssn, what bank and documents did you provide.
3. Anybody help with information about getting insurance.
4. when it comes to filing tax returns, is it okay for my wife to file as single since I don’t have an SSN yet and not currently working?
it’s like basically, we need the ssn for everything but the process itself is long af. helpful tips will be appreciated.

my husband was able to open a bank acct with his passport and his driver license we in nyc. also I was able to add him to my bank account no issues we only had to present our marriage certificate and the bank is chase, also if you got a credit card you can add him as a authorized user

Hi so I open an account with PNC and they don’t require a social security number.
I was able to get on my husbands lease and I don’t have a SSN
I also got health insurance without SSN from healthcare.gov for the state I am in. everything is doable don’t get discouraged.

you can also apply for an individual tax identification number ITIN and you can use that number as your SSN for the processes you want while waiting.

Thank you @m.arias for that info. @Y E, thank you as well. our apartment is pretty strict about ssn. so I guess I ll just be patient for that. I ll try that with the bank. thanks.

Hi K C! it can be used to open account, pay lease , used by the spouse when filing for taxes so that the spouse without a SSN will be a dependent etc, it literally acts as SSN as it can be used to identify it’s owner

hello @jude. my RFE was about my form I 864, affidavit of support. Thabkfully mine was clear enough and they told me the exact documents I needed to provide if I chose to get a joint sponsor. so I just got a joint sponsor

first account we opened while I was visiting and this was in 2019 in Maine at Partners Bank, joint againwith my then fiancé. Used my visitors visa back then. Still have the account.
