Vermont delayed processing my case
My Form I-751 has been taking too much in Vermont Service Center. I know 2 ppl that filed less than 3 months before me and they have already gotten their 2nd GC, one of those have already applied for citizenship (she got her 2nd GC in less than 4 months). I don't know their priorities, since they filed close to mine and they were processed also in Vmt.

File for citizenship as soon as you are eligible under the 3 year rule and that will push your I-751

I got a 540 day gc extension. I'll be able to file N-400 citizenship in a month. I'm just wondering if it could mess up the timeline.

Vermont service center is most useless center in United States, over two years I didn't hear anything from them at all.

I filed for the same in march 2021 as well. still waiting for an interview date. got transferred from Texas to NBC
Rocco FortéFeb 12, 2022
@Allan that’s the only way to push your I-751 if you don’t wanna wait

I see. I'm going to do so. The notice of action extending my residency to 540 days more after my 1st gc is expired still sums up 3 years of residency, the legal time to apply for a citizenship. what bothers me is that they have no priorities... 2 friends that went through this process a little before me have their own decision already, while nobody analyses my docs.

@Frank, did you get your Notice of Action extending your residency to 540 days more? if you're still married, you just need 3 years in total to apply for a citizenship, plus 18 months of physical presence in US
F
Frank SFeb 12, 2022
yes they extended it for 24 months
A
Allan BFeb 12, 2022
mine is just 540 days (18 months)
F
Frank SFeb 13, 2022
they gave me 18 at first, then when my case was transferred, they added an additional 6 months

Allan BFeb 13, 2022
what is your office now?
F
Frank SFeb 13, 2022
nbc, field office is Atlanta. you?
A
Allan BFeb 13, 2022
im still in Vmt
F
Frank SFeb 13, 2022
you should submit a case inquiry
A
Allan BFeb 13, 2022
only for those who filed form i751 before October 2020

I’m March 12th and in the same boat. my December friend was approved last month so they are working on January right now. Vermont i751 is not the worst case since the rest of the offices say it takes up to 36 months to process the application. if you applied before Oct 2020 and haven’t heard anything you can always call your senator and file out of normal time inquiry - it usually helps. if you are March 2021 which isn’t even a year I don’t understand the complaint tbh my lawyer told me it might take 2+ years when I applied so I really think 16 months isn’t that bad. I’d rather be in Vermont than NBC

As I mentioned before, I have two couple of friends who got into the process next to me. Couple A: Filed Form I-751 on Sep 2020, got her 2nd GC on Apr 2021. (7 months) Couple B: Filed Form I-751 on Dec 2020, got her 2nd GC on Mar 2021. (Almost 4 months). She has already applied N-400 and it's already ready to Schedule an Interview. Me: Filed Form I-751 on Mar 2021, got nothing so far. We are all in MA, fingerprint in RI, Service Center in VT. The only difference is that I was totally legal when I got into the process and my friends were undocumented. The couple B just got married 5 months before me and all processing times before I-751 was pretty much the same. The pandemic is not an excuse because it was worse between sep2020 and apr 2021 than it is now, we have plenty of vaccine, we don't have any lockdown anymore, no covid relief, so if the Gov says we need to get back to normal, why don't they do so? Just a piece of extra information, the Texas Service Center processing time for I-751 is between 7 and 10 months as you can see at uscis.gov. If VT is overwhelmed, they should transfer the case to another office.

yes Texas is great, I saw May 2021 approvals already. all I’m trying to say is EAC is not the worst. and usually unless ur transferred to NBC it’s no interview office.

Allan BFeb 14, 2022
it's just frustrating when you see ppl around you having their approval in 4 to 7 months... I know I'm still in the timeframe, but it is frustrating anyways. I need to go to my country of birth, but I can't because of the immigration rules...
A
Allan BFeb 14, 2022
when my first gc was approved, I could leave the country, but now I can't until I have my citizenship approved
A
Allan BFeb 14, 2022
my friend who got married 5 months before me is ready to Schedule the interview for citizenship while my process is stucked on Form i751
Harry PotterFeb 14, 2022
Allan why can’t you go to your country? I travel with an extension letter no issues
A
Allan BFeb 14, 2022
to apply for a citizenship you must prove physical presence in US for the 18 months prior you filling form n400. they allow you leave US but attorney said for no longer than 30 days and you might have to explain a reasonable purpose for leaving US in your citizenship interview.

you can find this info at USCIS.gov, Guide for Naturalization (Form M-476) chapter 4 Physical Presence in the United States page 19.

Allan BFeb 15, 2022
I totally agree with you, but keep in mind that you must prove Physical Presence in US for the 18 months before filing N400
Harry PotterFeb 15, 2022
how is it related to your i751? you won’t be able to leave for more than a couple of weeks until you get your N400 approved than with or without your 10y card
Harry PotterFeb 15, 2022
it’s long and frustrating process but we are all in the same boat
A
Allan BFeb 15, 2022
it's not related, I just exposed my frustration.
A
Allan BFeb 15, 2022
we are on the same boat, except 2 friends of mine that have their i751 approved in 4 and 7 months
A
Allan BFeb 15, 2022
notwithstanding that, this is a Capitalist country. I paid $680 for my i751 be processed. am I going to get a refund when I pay $725 for N400 without my i751 being processed?

I'm not asking for mercy, we need to understand that people also have rights.
