Traveling with Advance Parole (I-131)
Hi all!
I just wanted to share my experience traveling with an advance parole document for those of you who are planning a trip and want to know what to expect.
I got a stand-alone approval for my AP on April 14 and the document (a paper) showed up in my mailbox on April 19.
On April 21 I traveled to my home country to see my family! Brought the paper with me, since it would be necessary to come back to the US.
I arrived back on May 9 through JFK and the process was really smooth. The initial officer (from one of the booths) took me to a separate room, handed my paperwork to another officer, who did not ask any questions and just stamped my AP indicating the entry date. I only presented the AP + my passport, but had the I485 receipt just in case (they did not ask for it).
All the officers were quite friendly! The whole process (queue, going to another room a leaving) did not take more than 10 min.

I applied on November 3, 2021 and it is valid for 1 year after issuance (April 14 2022 to April 14 2023).
Hope to have my GC until then hehe šš½

happen the same to myself. and I have a criminal record. in the past. dui. public intoxication. and probation violation. that was when I was stupid young man. thank god I out of those worst things.
officers was really nice and that next one he didnāt ask me anything. just stamp my passport and thatās all. he say have a nice day

for your I-131 form, did you fill out your expected travel dates and countries? Iām wondering if the validity they gave you is different from what you put on the form?
I put on my form September 2022. hoping to use it for a trip in late may early June and it just got approved this week.

I just received my work permit but itās a combo card so I donāt have an additional letter to travel in the work permit say advance parole, this work the same as the letter? or is different?

if itās a combo card you can use it as AP

Calvin, I put January 2022 and only got my AP in April 2022. Maybe I was too optimistic š
but Iām not sure if they take that into consideration

thank you Marci, Guys I am so confused I donāt know what to do, my case was transferred from TSC to Nebraska and then back to texas, I need to change my address from Kentucky to Maryland I call USCIS today and the agent told me that that can delay my case and she said I can change the address with usps and they can forward the documents to the new address but I read that ups donāt forward USCIS documents. I donāt know what to do š©.

Hi folks, My AP just got approved and i am planning to travel to my home country. I overstayed my student visa and scared to travel. If anyone have experience traveling using AP after overstaying visa can share their experience will be really helpful. Ty

hi Shams. i didnāt have this experience, but read online that itās ok (there is some content on Reddit). They didnāt check my visa, only my AP document

as an update for you guys, my case was approved on 5/11, but last Wednesday they told me the ādocument failed to produceāwhen I called. Got a call back from a tier 2 agent who said theyāll reroute my case back to the California service center, and called back today to give me an appointment for emergency AP on thirsday.

Calvin, you have to check the office near your place for emergency AP filing and bring the proof with you (Iād check the address with an agent)
but the emergency AP only lasts 30 days
