RFIE - Marriage certificate - anyone in the same situation?
Submit a copy of the marriage certificate between the K-1 applicant and the I-129F petitioner showing the date of the marriage within 90 days of the K-1’s arrival into the United States. The marriage certificate must be issued by the government agency authorized to issue the document. For immigration purposes, the marriage must have been registered with the government agency authorized to register marriages from the location where the marriage took place. The marriage certificate must have the seal of the issuing office, the date of registration, and signature of the registrar. Any foreign language documents must be accompanied by a complete English translation.
I initially submitted a certified copy of marriage certificate with my I-485. The marriage took place in Grand Rapids - Kent County, Michigan with the marriage licence issued in Hudsonville, Michigan, Ottawa County that’s where my wife resided (US citizen.
Do you think they simply lost my marriage certificate or there was another problem with it? please if you got the RFIE for your marriage certificate comment on how you approached the respond to the RFIE. Thank you so much

i dont think they want it like that i think they just want the marriage certificate from the same location you guys got married at with a seal on it from the place that is authorized to register marriages
Victory VictoryJan 27, 2022
from the place you got married and not from the place where you got the license.
Destined For GreatnessJan 27, 2022
i dont know why they are giving you such a hard time its just different counties same state smh
Oldrich DutyJan 27, 2022
@itchy in Michigan they issue a licence in the county where one of us resides - that was Ottawa and they said we can get married anywhere in Michigan, we got married in Grand Rapids at Founders - Kent county. We cannot get Kent county marriage certificate.
Destined For GreatnessJan 27, 2022
can i ask you this so did you have a court house wedding? and then a big wedding
Victory VictoryJan 27, 2022
I think he’s giving himself hard time bcuz, the rfe asked for marriage certificate and not marriage license.
Destined For GreatnessJan 27, 2022
@oldrich just submit what you have im telling you the longer you drag this out is the longer they are going to take to work on your case
Oldrich DutyJan 27, 2022
@ itchy no we had up to 40 ppl wedding at Founders, no court, no church
Destined For GreatnessJan 27, 2022
where is your marriage certificate? @oldrich
Oldrich DutyJan 27, 2022
@ victory - Ottawa county issued our marriage certificate but we got married in Kent county
Destined For GreatnessJan 27, 2022
did you submit that already? just submit it again with the rfe letter thats it
Destined For GreatnessJan 27, 2022
@victory i understand that lol but im trying to help the best i can
Oldrich DutyJan 27, 2022
@ itchy - I don’t have the physical RFIE
Victory VictoryJan 27, 2022
I got you, but it’s easy. The marriage license you have is valid and legitimate and that’s all you have so go ahead and submit it as many times the request for it. I know that they’re suspicious about your marriage bcuz of the two venues attached, but just submit what you have with no delays.
Victory VictoryJan 27, 2022
@Itchy ass, I got you your point.
Mahdi midoJan 27, 2022
I had the same issue. they only wanted a copy of the certified copy not the actual certified copy. because they simply destroy all the originals.
Oldrich DutyJan 27, 2022
@Mahdi really ? did you have a lawyer? can you share with me your timeline and your response to the RIFE? Oldrich.duty@gmail.com
Mahdi midoJan 27, 2022
I actually didn't get a lawyer, I responded online and my response my was received since September 21th 2021. I contacted the USCIS live agent and he confirmed that my response was received and they put me in line for interview scheduling. so I put that worry away. I suggest to not worry about that just like instructed on the RFIE. in my case I uploaded it online. good luck
Oldrich DutyJan 27, 2022
@ Mahdi thank you for your support. would you be willing to share you response to your RIFE to my email anyway? what is your case status now? so if I understand well you took a certified copy, scanned it and send it to them, right?
Mahdi midoJan 27, 2022
my response was simply scanning the certified copy and uploading along with RIEF paper they sent. keep in mind that you will to attach it too. as of today (sine my field office is super slow) my case still says response to RIFE was received and USCIS begun working on the case. it's been four months now, but that simply because my field office is super slow, they are still processing people with 2019 and early 2020.
Oldrich DutyJan 27, 2022
@ Mahdi, my motice said that I need to send it by mail. I talked to the lawyer and she recommended also getting a new certified copy from my county which should already have a state file Nr on it and send them both copies county and state one.
Destined For GreatnessJan 27, 2022
that is good that you talked to a lawyer but dont forget to attached the rfe with the evidence @oldrich it was a little complicated to help but at least you got it solved
Oldrich DutyFeb 1, 2022
