Ombudsman Request Timeline
Hi, my case for EAD renewal is now being handled by the CIS Ombudsman’s Office. They’ve just emailed me saying that they contacted the USCIS. Was anyone in a similar position? How long did it take to hear back from the USCIS with the help of the ombudsman? Thank you. UPDATE: Card is being produced! Read my post on Reddit (the link is in the comments) and GOOD LUCK.

how long did it take to hear from the ombudsman? I submitted last week Thursday and haven’t heard back yet at all. I was able to check almost every box (out of processing times and work permit running out next week so financial hardship).

It took 2,5 weeks! I think I called them to check the status. and then they sent the email saying they will not prioritize my case (in fact, it meant they won’t work on it as they only handle other, “about-to-get-deported”, situations). I didn’t like this response and started working on a detailed proof of financial loss. I submitted the supporting documents via email, and then it was confirmed that the case is active.

make sure you’re getting evicted. get the notice from your landlord. if you can do that.
Sa BeFeb 15, 2022
Well we are (luckily) not getting evicted. My husband works and makes a good salary and we own our house. I know there are people who are worse off. On the other hand this is my life too. I worked hard to get my education and to get myself into the position I am in now, working for my employer since well over six years. I work in a mainly male dominated industry, finally got promoted last week, and I am currently on maternity leave. I know my case is different but like I said: it’s my life too and I feel it doesn’t count at all in those immigration cases :/

I completely agree. this is why I didn’t like the prioritization buckets provided by the ombudsman’s office when they responded to my inquiry. like there should be no prioritization whatsoever. if people lose jobs because of the delays on the federal agency’s end, it’s definitely not people’s fault, and it’s definitely something that needs to be fixed by the government ASAP.

Staying sane and emotionally stable while checking in on a status of your application these days is impossible. not only we lose money and career accomplishments we made so far, but also mental health is getting destroyed.

Hi Pavel. After you emailed Ombudsman, how long did you wait for their response?

Hey Ryan, it took a couple days for them to respond to my email with supporting docs. The assistance case was submitted weeks before, and it took about 2.5 weeks to hear back from them (when they told me they won’t prioritize my inquiry).
