Married but Taxes filing separately
Hi, I got married August last year. Do you think filing taxes separately will affect my immigration decision during the interview? What is the disadvantage of married but filing separately? I don’t want anything to affect the decision in case we are asked at the interview Thanks.

it is better to file jointly and not have to explain than file separately. Or you could think about it this way; filing jointly cannot have any negative impact on your application, filing separately may have a negative impact depending on how the officer perceives your reasons for filing separately. so if you can, file jointly.

there’s a provision by law to file separately. if there’s a reason to do that you can. uscis has no business how you file.

I did file separate . you need a good reason and show that if they asked . there’s many . you can search online Google

I had that issue at my interview. The IO says on paper he cannot believe that I am still married to my husband even though we had other stuff together in our names. He told me to go home and upload anything that would convince him that I am still married.

I have been married since February 2020 and last year we filed separately because we were not married the year before.
