Laid off on H1b with no extension possible.
hi, I got laid off last week from my job and am currently on my H-1b visa that expires on Oct 15,2025. I have already used up my 6 years of H1b and my previous employer was in the process of sponsoring my green card. They had filed for PERM last year but unfortunately it was still processing when I got laid off. If I do find a new employer that is willing to sponsor me, what would the process be? will they have to sponsor my green card right away as I have already used my 6 years of H1b? is the PERM case from my previous employer considered abandoned? My plan is to stay in the country for 6-8 months and eventually move back to India for good. I want to know what the best way is to do that. Would applying for change of status to B2 visa be advised? I am alright with not being able to work. Would you suggest enrolling in DAy 1 CPT program as a backup?

I think it’s better to contact lawyer. instead of searching answers from here. I am not sure here you have lawyers or not
