interview
my husband doesn't have a copy of his birth certificate but he did put in for a replacement, problem is the replacement isn't set to arrive till after the interview date. Will that affect our interview?

they’ll ask for it for sure but you can just tell them when it’s supposed to arrive. They might want to reschedule your interview. My advice would be to see if you can just reschedule it for after you receive it.

okay I will definitely look into rescheduling it.

I think they may send you a RFE after the interview for you to submit it.

DO NOT RESCHEDULE! my husband came to America as a refugee 25 years ago and never had a birth certificate. Only his American passport. I was adopted to Canada at age 5 (only had my landing papers) and married my husband who is American 3 years ago. I got my green card in less than 6 months and never got asked for birth certificate.

I wouldn’t advice you to reschedule you might not get any interview date anytime soon. They will probably send you a rfe

go for interview and send it as rfe if they will require it.

also refugees/asylees aren’t required to have birth Certificates for obvious reasons. Certain people like myself don’t have it for other reasons and if you explain a valid reason to uscis, they will understand.
Genesis M.Sep 13, 2021
The only thing with RFE is that she could provide the original copy but she will not get it back. So that’s why I say reschedule.

@genesis that is not true. A notarized copy of birth certificate will do AND you can request uscis to return docs. they have a procedure for that …. Form G-884 is used frequently to request originals back
Genesis M.Sep 13, 2021
Really?! Dang I didn’t know that at all. Usually people would just tell me that anything you send in you don’t get back. But that’s really good to know for future reference. Thank you!

he has his passport and i believe we sent a copy of his certificate when filing.. Thank you everyone, I will have faith and go to the interview because we have everything else they are asking for and I've been waiting so long.

daninel in my opinion and experience….. these people have your partners fingerprints so if he is a threat to the country, that’s what they care about. you can forge a birth certificate, pay off officials in developing countries for an ‘original’ but they care about the fingerprints and the legitimacy of your relationship. These people aren’t out to get you, they are actually very decent people. good luck and keep us posted
