income taxes
I have a question that’s bugging me. my husband adviser told me I have to file taxes as single even though we married and the reason she said is because my husband doesn’t have social security yet. but I’m on hr&block site it says I cannot file single if I’m married if my spouse is a non citizen. help please? how I can add him into my taxes?

that’s true , he doesn’t work anyway right so what he will return for? by the way you can’t file tax without social security number.

@mimi true he doesn’t work but I can’t file single because I be lying and I don’t want uscis to look at me like I’m lying. I’m married not single…. now should I file single anyways ?

don’t file single , it’s illegal to file single if you legally married , but instead you can either file head of household or married filling separately

@mimi oh wow lucky and congratulations I wouldn’t dare tho cause my understanding is if you legally married you can’t file single. I’m glad that works out perfectly for you guys. again congratulations

you can file, you just have to request a ITN number for your husband, is a number they give for people without ssn in this situations, my husband ask one for me last year and we filed tax together

does ur husband have an ITIN number as opposed to a social security number to file taxes? you can file married filing separate which just means you click the married box but file only ur own taxes
c
cris ariasJan 31, 2022
@Adt @waiting no he doesn’t we never thought about him getting an itin number
W
Waiting PatientlyJan 31, 2022
ok you don’t have to get him an ITIN number but you can file as ‘married filing separately’ which means you list your legal martial status and don’t require any of his income

you can ask for it when you filed your tax, we did it last year with hr&block actually and they help us a lot, we just have to sign everything and they did everything for us

Married filing separately is a tax status used by married couples who choose to record their incomes, exemptions, and deductions on separate tax returns. ^^^^ Copy and pasted

if your supporting your husband and he doesn’t have an income I really recommend you to get an ITN number and file together because if he’s your dependent you can get a good tax return

You can file head of household for tax purposes.
W
Waiting PatientlyFeb 1, 2022
@Latoya me too. My partner also filed as head of household when I didn’t have social. I think it helped our paperwork approved in record time

@M Arias …. Listen to @KH A and go with the advice. Request an ITIN number and file married.
